The full Moon in July is called the Buck Moon because the antlers of male deer (bucks) are in full-growth mode at this time. Bucks shed and regrow their antlers each year, producing a larger and more impressive set as the years go by.

Paul and Jane Meyer Observatory, Coryell County
A family-friendly event open to the general public free of charge. Great for all ages! Open houses typically feature a short presentation, a tour of the observatory, and telescope viewing opportunities.
Note: Open House will take place regardless of the weather. However please be aware that cloud cover, storms in the area, high humidity, and other circumstances beyond our control may impact viewing conditions, or preclude astronomical observations altogether. In this case, the presentation and tour of the observatory will still take place, and it is still a great opportunity to meet local astronomy enthusiasts and learn about the exciting world of astronomy.

The CTAS Quarterly General Membership Meeting is at the Paul and Jane Meyer Observatory, prior to the Member Star Party. We want to hear your voice and opinions on the direction the club is moving and the various projects and business of which the board and officers are engaged. The quarterly meetings are where your vote counts so we encourage all members to attend.

Each month members gather at the Turner Research Station and Paul and Jane Meyer Observatory for stargazing and socializing. This is also the date for the Annual CTAS Star-B-Q. Bring an appetizers or sides that serves 8 to share! Arrive early...this is an excellent time for new members to bring their scopes and get hands on help or invite potential members to get to know us! Evites will go out for a "head count" so we can prepare burgers & dogs. Bring you tents & gear and spent the night stargazing.
