Learning the Night Sky"

Public Events
Each month we offer an Open House at the Meyer Observatory, near Clifton, Texas. Registration is strongly encouraged, and we have an indoor program in case of cloudy weather.

Central Texas Astronomical Society (CTAS) has not scheduled any Eclipse events at Meyer Observatory for the August 21st partial eclipse. Some of our members are helping at events sponsored by local libraries, etc. Other CTAS members are planning to go to various locations in the center of the track of this event to see the full 2.5 minutes of totality. We did not schedule any events this time because our telescope is not equipped to do solar viewing and therefore we decided to only help with local events sponsored by other organizations. We probably will look into modifying our set up at the Meyer Observatory in the future so we can provide live views on the web at the next total eclipse scheduled to come to central Texas in 2024.

We would like to remind anyone that is planning to view the partial event here in Central Texas to use proper certified eye sun filters and never take a look at the sun without them. Many stores like Lowes are offering the sun filters for sale and some city libraries have stocked up on several hundred to use at their Eclipse Parties.

We also offer public stargazing (star parties) at various locations in Central Texas. We also encourage you to register for these events, especially so we can warn you if we have to cancel for bad weather.
