NGC 1055 SPIRAL EDGE ON GALAXY IN CETUS CONST.
Author Last Post
Aubrey,

Normally, your images come as attachments, but this one appears to be part of the base message and resultingly is quite small. I am quite late in responding because I kept thinking it would be resent as an attachment. It looks like an excellent image, albeit a bit difficult to see the details because of its size.

Jeff

Shot this image on December 27, 2021 from Brickhouse observatory with AT 10" CF ARMS RC TELESCOPE, QHY16200 CAMERA WITH 2" BAADER LRGB FILTERS ON AN AP 1200 MOUNT.

It is located about 52 MLY away and is quite active in star formation.

It is a binary system together with the bright spiral galaxy M77. These two are the largest galaxies of a small galaxy group that also includes NGC1073, and five other small irregular galaxies.

The three stars underneath NGC1055 are:

(left to right) Red 6.66 mag star, blue 7.55 mag star and on top is a red mag 10 star.

Enjoy.
