M51 Whirlpool...

Beautiful image Aubrey! I hate so say this, but that is a heck of a lot better than any image I have ever been able to get of M51!

Its been a sorry time for AP in 2018 but I did get enough time to image a wide field of
M 51 Whirlpool galaxy over three nights. This is the first time with a refractor. I did shoot a nice image of M51 that is close up with the Meyer 24" several years ago and looking forward to doing it again with the new telescope upgrade.

This is about three hours of data and was shot over three different nights. Plate solving makes that much easier than in the old days.

There are about 60 or so galaxies in the background and you can find two or three easily. IC 4263 and IC 4277 are the largest at M 14.5 and 15.7.

Will try to get the data and work it before tonight's meeting.

Nice job on the Whirlpool. See if you can get time to process the data I took with the PIXIS camera this morning.

Aubrey,

Nice job!

You can see how M51 appears to be gobbling up another smaller galaxy in
one of its arms.
