Just enough exposure to catch the tail without overexposing the nucleus
too much.

I started not to say anything, but I have to! 

Talk about a near miss... "as it passed under a tree limb" is about as close as a comet needs to get to dear old planet earth!

Thanks, just one minor correction about the image timing.
It was a stack of 6 images for a total of 160 seconds or approx 2.5 min.
